Tom & James Draw (which is a tumblr blog that you should follow) is the beautiful collaborative art project between James Gulliver Hancock and his brother Tom, who was born with Down’s Syndrome. Their work is gorgeous — layered, colorful and fascinating. Here’s more:

Their collaboration is unique as they are sharing experiences between the outsider and “insider” art world. James identifies with Toms abstract use of visual coding and Tom builds around James’ skilled and confident mark making. Tom relaxes James’ technical obsessions, and James enables Tom’s concentration and playful markmaking. Together they make worlds of experience, encompassing people around them and their actions, animals, plants, engines, and sometimes hilarious nods to the human experience and perception.

Both of them are interested in obsession, both within mark making and the role obsession plays with perception and life in general.

Spaghetti Break..

I got bored of organising my portfolio and i started to look through all my books so here is my all time favourite cook book, this is to do with illustration too!

I forgot how much i loved just looking at this book! Franco Lagattolla ran La Trattoria Terrazza in London with Mario Cassandro. He wrote and illustrated this book!

For all you food lovers out there, or even if you just want a book to look at, i would recommend this one! The quirky, funny illustrations enhance the book and makes it fun to read. His simple style suits the whole look of the book. Just reading the recipes makes me hungry!

HAHAHA a cat as a waiter!

Most of the illustrations looks if they could have been pulled from a comedy sketch, they take the mickey out of themselves and have a good sense of humour about it. On this page Franco talks about Sammy Davis Jnr and Frank Sinatra coming to his restaurant.

Honestly i could just look through this book for hours just getting hungrier and admiring the beautiful line drawings. This is also a good place to learn some Italian from!

I find the human characters most humorous with their characterful faces which show the stereotype of an italian chef!

I have way too many scans from this book but i just couldn’t decide on which images to pick from.

Those of you that have heard me talk about Pasta E Patate (pasta with potatoes) this is the book that the recipe is from! I would recommend this book to everyone. Not only is the food delicious but the illustration and writing is humorous and light hearted.

LOVELY! now back to the portfolio.

My beautiful street so far! started to finally draw my hercules’ for each section but i have a feeling that this won’t fold properly. It may just have to be a really long image. oh well! learnt from my mistakes! Going to pick out some stock tomorrow, which will take me about an hour! I’ve just realised how much cat related stuff i have on my computer. I think i have a problem.

“Peter Pan” book cover design by Katie Harnett

This is lovely. The texture of the brush marks are lovely and the whole colour scheme is lovely.
